North County Direct Mail From Our Plant in Vista, California
Plavidian prints, addresses and mails from its plant at 2210 E Vista Way in Vista, California, 7 to 13 miles by road from Oceanside, San Marcos, Carlsbad and Escondido. All of North County sorts to one USPS sectional center, so a local mailing turns on who should receive it and whether carrier routes or an addressed list reaches them. That answer changes by ZIP code: the owner-occupied share runs from 28% of households in Oceanside's 92058 to 94% in Rancho Santa Fe's 92067.
North County in figures
- 372,464 households in 32 ZIP codes (Census ACS, 2019 to 2023)
- 586 USPS carrier routes, 122 of them rural
- All 920 and 921 ZIP codes sort to SCF SAN DIEGO CA 920
- Print pickup and in-person proofs at 2210 E Vista Way
- Plavidian Insight™ tracking included with every mailing
USPS and audience
Simple for USPS, not for the audience
For USPS sortation, North County is one place. Its ZIP codes start with 920, apart from 92127 and 92128 in Rancho Bernardo and Carmel Mountain, which start with 921, and USPS assigns both prefixes to one sectional center, SCF SAN DIEGO CA 920, on its letter list (L005) and its flat list (L016) alike.
USPS describes the Margaret L. Sellers Processing and Distribution Center in San Diego as its largest mail processing facility in the county (USPS newsroom). So a North County mailing never has to be split between sectional centers, the way a countywide Orange County mailing or an Inland Empire mailing does (Southern California). The rest of San Diego County sorts the same way; the San Diego County page has the county-wide view.
The audience is where North County stops being simple. Most households rent in four of its ZIP codes: 92058 (28% owner-occupied) and 92054 (39%) in Oceanside, 92025 (42%) in Escondido and 92083 (47%) in Vista. Saturation mail there reaches renters and owners alike, so an offer only an owner can take up, such as solar, a remodel or a listing appointment, belongs on an addressed list with an owner select.
Coast versus inland is a rough guide to income; the city and the ZIP code are better ones. Inland Poway has 49% of households at $150,000 or more, the same share as coastal Solana Beach, while coastal Oceanside has 24%, close to Vista at 26% and Escondido at 28%. Among the cities, median home values run from $607,400 in Vista's 92083 to $2,000,000 or more, the highest value the survey reports, in Del Mar's 92014.
Inland, homes spread out. Valley Center, Pauma and Pala have 40 households per square mile and Ramona 73, against 856 in Oceanside and 1,491 in Solana Beach. A radius around a storefront in Valley Center or Ramona takes in far fewer homes than the same radius in Oceanside or Solana Beach, so plan inland mail by ZIP code or carrier route and check the residential count on each route.
Households by ZIP code
Households in each North County ZIP code
A family offer and an offer for older households belong in different ZIP codes. Households with children are 39% of all households in San Marcos and 37% in Vista, and 49% in 92127 and 43% in Oceanside's 92058; householders 65 or older head 44% of households in Rancho Santa Fe, 42% in Del Mar and 37% in Valley Center, Pauma and Pala.

ZIP codes cross city lines, so a ZIP total will not match a city total. Camp Pendleton's 92055 is not in the Census profile the tools use, so it has no row.

Carrier routes
USPS carrier routes in the same ZIP codes
An EDDM mailing goes to every residential delivery on each route you pick, so the route list, not the city name, sets the piece count: Vista's three ZIP codes hold 56 routes with 40,535 residential deliveries. Route type is a USPS label, not a picture of the area: all 21 routes in Vista's 92081, a ZIP with 1,192 households per square mile, are rural routes, the same type as the 17 routes that cover Valley Center's 92082 at 51 households per square mile. If a mailing includes businesses, 92008 in Carlsbad, 92024 in Encinitas and 92025 in Escondido each have more than 2,000 business deliveries.

Can EDDM reach Camp Pendleton or Rancho Santa Fe?
Not through 92055, Camp Pendleton's ZIP code, or 92067, Rancho Santa Fe's P.O. Box ZIP code: USPS lists no carrier routes for either, so reaching those addresses takes an addressed mailing list. Rancho Santa Fe's other ZIP code, 92091, has 2 rural routes with 895 residential deliveries that EDDM can reach.
The Census counts 2,971 households in 92067, 94% of them owner-occupied, with the highest median household income in the table above, $238,397. Plavidian CASS-processes addressed lists and can supply one through licensed data providers (mailing lists).

Pickup and proofs at the plant in Vista, California
Print-only orders can be picked up at 2210 E Vista Way Ste 6, Vista, CA 92084, and a proof can be reviewed there in person before the job runs. By road the plant is 7 miles from Oceanside, 8 from San Marcos, 9 from Carlsbad, 13 from Escondido, 14 from Encinitas and 15 from Fallbrook, and printed goods can also be delivered locally around North County or shipped. Door hangers and yard signs are print-only products: they are picked up, delivered locally or shipped, never mailed.
Order cutoffs are 9:00 AM Pacific for a 2-day rush on certain products and 12:00 PM Pacific for every other turnaround, and production starts after proof approval (turnaround times). Printing can be paid by card. USPS postage is paid by check or wire transfer, never by card, and no mail is released to USPS until the full postage has been received in cleared funds.
Temecula and Murrieta, 27 and 32 miles away by road, are closer to the plant than downtown San Diego, but their Riverside County ZIP codes start with 925, and USPS sorts them to SCF MORENO VALLEY CA 925 for letters and SCF SN BERNARDINO CA 923 for flats, so their mail is planned as an Inland Empire mailing; the Temecula and Murrieta guide has their figures.
Local direct mail planning
Planning a mailing in North County San Diego?
Six steps from an idea to mail in North County homes; the counting and route tools below open on North County cities and ZIP codes.
Define the market
Name the city or the ZIP codes, then filter by owner or renter, income, householder age and children. In Oceanside, where 47% of households rent, the owner filter alone removes nearly half of the count. Counts come from Census data bundled into the tool, and the list itself is built after you order.
Count Households in OceansideCompare approaches
EDDM reaches every residential address on the routes you choose, with no list; an addressed list reaches only the households that match. A restaurant or an urgent care clinic can use the routes around its door, while an owner-only offer mailed to every door in Oceanside or Vista reaches nearly as many renters as owners.
Compare EDDM and a Mailing ListEstimate the mailing
Oceanside's four ZIP codes alone hold 89 carrier routes with 73,173 residential deliveries. The EDDM Route Builder prices the postage for the routes you pick at origin, SCF and DDU entry side by side and adds printing and mailing for the flat you choose; for an addressed mailing, the Direct Mail Cost Calculator estimates printing, mailing services and postage, and a list Plavidian supplies is quoted.
Price EDDM Routes in OceansidePrepare the creative
The route tools on this page are set to an 8.5x11 flat; EDDM at Plavidian also takes 6.5x9 and 9x12 flats, and a 4x6, 6x9 or 6x11 postcard does not qualify. Plavidian Studio™ lays out the flat with the address and permit areas in place, and the Print File Check grades a PDF you made yourself.
Design a Flat in Plavidian StudioProduce and mail
Addressing and USPS preparation run at the plant in Vista, California, and Plavidian mails on its own USPS permits, so you need no permit of your own. Letter-size mailings can add Plavidian Sentry™ camera verification, which reads each piece as it is addressed and diverts any piece that does not match its record.
Follow the mail
Plavidian Insight is included with every Plavidian mailing. It follows each addressed piece by its Intelligent Mail barcode through USPS scans and shows the day-by-day scan curve and a delivery map for the drop; scans show where the mail moved, not proof of delivery.
What Plavidian Insight Shows
By industry
Industry guides that fit North County
Owner-heavy inland ZIP codes suit remodeling, landscaping and listing mail; the renter-heavy ZIP codes in Oceanside, Escondido and Vista suit a property manager's lease-up mail; older, wealthier ZIP codes such as Del Mar and Rancho Santa Fe suit senior living and financial services; family ZIP codes in San Marcos and Vista suit dental offices and restaurants.

Questions
Questions about direct mail in North County San Diego
How many households and carrier routes are in North County San Diego?
The 32 North County ZIP codes on this page hold 372,464 households by the Census Bureau's American Community Survey (2019 to 2023), from Oceanside and Fallbrook to Poway and Rancho Bernardo. USPS lists 586 carrier routes in them, with 394,463 residential and 27,234 business deliveries, as of September 27, 2026.
The two counts come from different sources and will not match: an EDDM mailing is sized from the USPS count on the routes you pick, and an addressed mailing from the households that match your list selects.
Which USPS sectional center handles North County mail?
SCF SAN DIEGO CA 920. Every North County ZIP code starts with 920, or 921 in Rancho Bernardo and Carmel Mountain, and USPS assigns both prefixes to that sectional center for letters and flats. USPS calls the Margaret L. Sellers Processing and Distribution Center in San Diego its largest mail processing facility in the county.
Should an Oceanside or Vista mailing use EDDM or a mailing list?
It depends on who can use the offer. In both Oceanside and Vista 47% of households rent, so an offer only a homeowner can use belongs on an addressed list with an owner select, while EDDM suits an offer any household can use, such as a restaurant, a clinic or a gym.
EDDM can still carry an owner offer if you pick routes in owner-heavy ZIP codes such as Oceanside's 92057 (69% owner-occupied), but every home on each chosen route gets a piece.
What does an EDDM mailing need at Plavidian?
At least 200 pieces and a flat-size piece: 6.5x9, 8.5x11 or 9x12. A 4x6, 6x9 or 6x11 postcard is not an EDDM piece. Plavidian mails EDDM on its own permit through the business mail entry unit, so the Retail limit of 5,000 pieces per ZIP Code per day does not apply.
In Pala's 92059 the only carrier route has 164 residential and 8 business deliveries, so an EDDM mailing there has to add routes from another ZIP code to reach 200 pieces. EDDM cannot select by homeowner, income, age or name: every residential address on a chosen route gets a piece, and business addresses too if you include them.
What can I do in person at the plant in Vista, California?
Pick up a print-only order and review a proof before the job runs, at 2210 E Vista Way Ste 6, Vista, CA 92084, 7 miles by road from Oceanside and 13 from Escondido. Printed goods can also be delivered locally around North County or shipped.
Does Plavidian print for North County businesses that are not mailing?
Yes. Business cards, flyers, brochures, banners and other commercial printing can be ordered on their own and picked up in Vista, delivered locally around North County or shipped.
Every job, including work an approved vendor produces on Plavidian's behalf, is held to the published Plavidian Standard™.
