Los Angeles County
Direct mail across Los Angeles County, planned by USPS region
Los Angeles County has about 9.8 million residents and 88 cities, but nearly all of its mail sorts under four USPS sectional center (SCF) labels, and those labels, not city lines, decide where a drop shipment enters. Plavidian prints and mails from Vista, in North County San Diego, and plans each Los Angeles County mailing from the ZIP codes on your list: a list that reaches Long Beach, Pasadena and Lancaster touches three different SCFs. Most households here rent, but the owner share changes sharply from one ZIP code to the next, so the choice between EDDM and an addressed list is made ZIP code by ZIP code.
Los Angeles County at a glance
- About 9.8 million residents and 88 cities (California DOF, 2026)
- 54% of households rent and 46% own (Census ACS)
- Four main SCFs: Los Angeles, Santa Clarita, Industry, Bakersfield
- Drop shipments from our Vista plant, planned SCF by SCF
- Plavidian Insight™ USPS scan tracking included with every mailing
How do you plan a mailing across Los Angeles County?
By USPS region, not by city. We group the ZIP codes on your mailing list by the SCF label USPS gives them, then plan the drop shipment and in-home window for each group, so a county-wide mailing can leave Vista as separate drops for SCF Los Angeles, Santa Clarita, Industry and Bakersfield.
By household count, the county splits 53.6% to SCF Los Angeles, 26.5% to SCF Santa Clarita, 16.2% to SCF Industry and 3.6% to SCF Bakersfield (Census household estimates by ZIP code, grouped by the USPS labeling list).
USPS regions
Los Angeles County by USPS region
Four areas, each named for the SCF label its ZIP codes sort to. The city names are the familiar ones in each area; the first three digits of a ZIP code decide which area it belongs to.
Los Angeles SCF: the city core to Long Beach
ZIP codes starting 900 to 905, 907 and 908 cover the City of Los Angeles core, the Westside, South Los Angeles, the South Bay and Long Beach, 53.6% of the county's households. Long Beach is the county's second-largest city, with 462,193 residents, and 59% of the households in its ZIP codes rent. Its 11 ZIP codes hold 272 carrier routes, every one of them a city route.
Map Long Beach Carrier RoutesSanta Clarita SCF: the Valley, the foothills and Santa Clarita
ZIP codes starting 910 to 916 take in the San Fernando Valley, Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena and the foothill communities, Calabasas, Agoura Hills and Santa Clarita, 26.5% of the county's households. Santa Clarita leans toward owners: 72% of households in its seven ZIP codes own their home, and 41 of their 135 carrier routes are rural routes.
Count Santa Clarita OwnersIndustry SCF: most of the San Gabriel Valley, the Pomona Valley and Whittier
ZIP codes starting 906, 917 and 918 cover most of the San Gabriel Valley, the Pomona Valley, Whittier, Norwalk, Pico Rivera, La Mirada and Montebello, 16.2% of the county's households. The same label serves the West End of San Bernardino County, including Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga and Chino, and a few northwest Orange County cities such as Buena Park and La Habra, so a mailing that crosses those county lines can share one drop shipment.
Map Whittier Carrier RoutesBakersfield SCF: Lancaster, Palmdale and the Antelope Valley
ZIP codes starting 935 sort to SCF Bakersfield, outside the county, and hold 3.6% of its households. They take in Lancaster (178,159 residents) and Palmdale (166,118), and Lancaster is about 147 miles by road from our plant. Because these ZIP codes sort to Bakersfield, their share of a county-wide mailing is planned as its own drop, or enters at our origin entry point when it is too small to justify one.
Count Lancaster HouseholdsUSPS entry
The USPS label for every Los Angeles County ZIP prefix
For every prefix below, letters and flats sort to the same SCF, so postcards, letters and flat pieces bound for the same ZIP codes follow one entry plan. Neighboring prefixes can sort to different SCFs, and county lines do not bind: 906 sorts to Industry although 905 and 907 sort to Los Angeles, and 935 sorts to SCF Bakersfield, outside the county. The 923 row is a single ZIP code, 92397, which reaches across the county line from Wrightwood in San Bernardino County and sorts to SCF San Bernardino. Destination SCF entry means taking each group to the SCF on its label.

Drop shipment
From our Vista plant to Los Angeles County
Our plant in Vista is about 78 miles by road from Long Beach, 127 from Santa Clarita and 147 from Lancaster. When the volume justifies it, a Los Angeles County mailing goes as a drop shipment: printed, addressed and presorted in Vista, then trucked to the SCF on each group's label and entered through USPS eInduction. Smaller mailings enter at our origin entry point, and we decide per mailing from quantity, mail class and in-home date.
Postage is paid by check or wire and must clear before mail is released, and under the Plavidian Standard™ no pallet bound for Los Angeles County leaves Vista until USPS shows the mailing released. USPS sets delivery timing from there, so none of this is a delivery promise; Plavidian Insight, included with every Plavidian mailing, then shows the USPS scans as the mail moves: visibility in the mailstream, not proof of delivery.

Audience
Who a Los Angeles County mailing reaches
A renter-majority county with owner-heavy pockets, a large business base and a population that shrank in 2025. Each one changes the list or the route selection.
- Most households rent
- Across the county's 282 ZIP code areas, 54% of 3,389,778 households rent and 46% own. Offers any household can use, from a restaurant, a dental practice or a gym, suit EDDM; offers only an owner can act on, such as roofing, solar or a remodel, need an addressed list with an owner select, or routes picked in owner-heavy ZIP codes such as 90808 or 91390.
- Tenure changes from ZIP to ZIP
- Inside Long Beach, owners are 15% of households in 90813 and 83% in 90808; in Santa Clarita they reach 87% in 91390. Decide between EDDM and a list for each ZIP code, not for the county as a whole.
- Children and older households
- Countywide, 31% of households have children and 23% have a householder 65 or older, but ZIP codes differ: households with children are 42% of 90805 and 12% of 90802, both in Long Beach. The Mailing List Builder filters for children and for householder age.
- A large business base
- The Bureau of Labor Statistics counted 572,385 establishments in Los Angeles County in 2024, across all ownerships including government (QCEW). EDDM can add the business deliveries on the routes you choose, and downtown that choice matters: in 90021 business deliveries outnumber residential ones. To reach one kind of business, such as dental offices or property managers, we supply business lists through licensed data providers.
- One resident in ten lives outside a city
- 983,184 people, 10.0% of the county, live in unincorporated areas rather than in any of the 88 cities. The Mailing List Builder counts communities such as East Los Angeles, Hacienda Heights and Rowland Heights by their Census boundary, and a ZIP code list or a drawn shape reaches the rest.
- People moved in 2025
- The county lost about 64,000 residents in 2025, a 0.6% drop, and DOF names the Eaton and Palisades fires and continued moves to the Inland Empire among the causes; Malibu alone fell 9.7%. A customer file from before the fires should go through NCOALink move update before it prints, and we run it when the mailing needs it.
Households by ZIP code
Renters and owners, ZIP code by ZIP code
Four Long Beach ZIP codes in the Los Angeles SCF area beside four Santa Clarita ZIP codes in the Santa Clarita SCF area. In 90802 and 90813 about four households in five rent, while every Santa Clarita ZIP code shown is majority owner, so an owner-only offer sent by EDDM would reach mostly renters in the first two and mostly owners in Santa Clarita.

Does EDDM work in Los Angeles County?
Yes, for offers every household can use, which is the test that matters in a county where 54% of households rent. Every Door Direct Mail reaches every residential address on the carrier routes you pick, and businesses too if you want them, with no mailing list; Plavidian mails it on its own permit through the BMEU, with a 200-piece minimum and flat-size pieces of 6.5x9, 8.5x11 or 9x12.
The permit matters in dense ZIP codes. In Long Beach, 90802 and 90805 each hold more than 25,000 residential deliveries, far past the Retail EDDM limit of 5,000 pieces per ZIP Code per day, which does not apply to EDDM mailed through the BMEU. EDDM cannot select owners, income or age, so an owner-only offer belongs on an addressed list.
Carrier routes
Carrier routes in central Los Angeles
Every route in these central Los Angeles ZIP codes is a city route. In downtown ZIP codes such as 90014, 90015 and 90021, business deliveries make up a large share, and in 90021 they outnumber residential ones, so decide on purpose whether an EDDM run includes businesses. When we pulled these counts from the USPS EDDM route service in September 2026, ZIP 90010 returned no carrier routes, so reaching it takes an addressed list.

Questions
Questions about direct mail in Los Angeles County
Can a mail house in Vista handle a Los Angeles County mailing?
Yes. Plavidian prints, addresses and presorts the mail in Vista, then drop-ships each group of ZIP codes to its USPS sectional center, such as SCF Los Angeles for Long Beach or SCF Santa Clarita for the San Fernando Valley, when the volume justifies a drop; smaller mailings enter at our origin entry point. You approve proofs online and follow the job, and its USPS scans, in your Plavidian account.
Which USPS sectional center serves my Los Angeles County ZIP code?
Check the first three digits: 900 to 905, 907 and 908 sort to SCF Los Angeles; 910 to 916 to SCF Santa Clarita; 906, 917 and 918 to SCF Industry; and 935, in the Antelope Valley, to SCF Bakersfield. A drop shipment plan is built on those USPS labels.
Can I mail a 6x9 postcard by EDDM in Los Angeles County?
No. Plavidian runs EDDM with flat-size pieces only, and the EDDM Route Builder offers 6.5x9, 8.5x11 and 9x12, so a 4x6, 6x9 or 6x11 postcard mails to an addressed list instead. In a county where 54% of households rent, that list also lets you choose owners or renters.
How do I mail only homeowners in Los Angeles County?
Use an addressed mailing list with an owner-occupied select, because EDDM reaches every household on a route and cannot tell owners from renters, and only 46% of Los Angeles County households own their home. The Mailing List Builder counts owner households by ZIP code, city, radius or drawn shape from bundled Census data, and we build the list itself after you order.
When will my mail reach Los Angeles County homes?
USPS controls delivery timing, so we plan an in-home window rather than promise a date. The Mail Date Planner builds that window from your mail class and entry point, including a drop to SCF Los Angeles, and Plavidian Insight, included with every mailing, shows the USPS scans once the mail is entered.
Order cutoffs are 12:00 PM Pacific for most turnarounds and 9:00 AM Pacific for a 2-day rush on certain products, and production starts after proof approval; see turnaround times.
How is a Los Angeles County mailing priced and paid for?
The price depends on quantity, format, whether you mail EDDM or an addressed list, and the entry plan, such as how many SCF drops your Los Angeles County ZIP codes need; the Direct Mail Cost Calculator gives a planning estimate and a quote confirms it. Printing can be paid by card, while postage is paid by check or wire transfer and must clear before any mail is released to USPS.
Can you ship printing to Los Angeles County?
Yes. Door hangers, flyers, business cards, banners and yard signs ship to your Los Angeles County address, or you can pick them up at our plant in Vista, about 78 miles by road from Long Beach. Door hangers and yard signs are print-only products and are not mailed.
