The facility

Who we work with locally

Across the county

Campaigns and consultants, municipalities and special districts, nonprofits and membership organizations, and commercial businesses running acquisition and retention programs. Short local runs and statewide mailings come off the same floor.

Pickup and delivery

Without a shipping leg

Print-only work can be collected in Vista. For mailings, entry at the San Diego postal facility is often the shortest path to delivery within the county.

On the floor in Vista

What is actually in the building

Digital and offset production
Xerox Versant digital for variable and short-run work, with offset for volume. Variable data is a production default here, not an upcharge on a special run.
Inkjet addressing and inserting
Kirk-Rudy addressing and inserting equipment for envelope and self-mailer work, including matched inserting.
Camera verification stations
Cognex DataMan readers matching every finished piece to its record, with automatic diverts. This is the equipment behind verified mail production.
Bindery and finishing
Folding, scoring, tabbing, trimming and packaging, so a job does not leave the building for finishing and come back.
USPS preparation
Trays, sacks, pallets, placards and electronic documentation prepared on site, entered locally or drop-shipped.

Serving San Diego County

From Oceanside to the border, and inland

North County is home: Vista, Oceanside, Carlsbad, San Marcos, Escondido and Encinitas are a short drive for pickup or a proof review. Beyond that we produce for the City of San Diego, Chula Vista, El Cajon, La Mesa, Poway, Santee and the East County, plus the county government, school and water districts, and the campaigns that run in all of them. Mail entered at the San Diego processing facility is usually the shortest path to a county-wide in-home date.

Local pickup and drop-off

What being nearby is actually worth

For a San Diego County customer, local production removes a shipping leg in both directions. That is typically one to three days on a short-run job, and it is the difference between approving a physical proof on Tuesday and approving it on Friday. It also means a rush job can be collected rather than couriered, and that someone can stand in front of a press sheet when the colour matters.

Working with local government

Cities, districts and school boards

San Diego County contains eighteen incorporated cities plus the county itself, dozens of special districts, and school districts whose boundaries follow none of them. Notices, resident communications and election materials from these bodies share one hard problem: the boundary the mailing applies to almost never matches a ZIP code. We handle that with address-point and parcel data rather than ZIP approximation, which is documented in the municipal case study.

Local political work

Where the races are close

Municipal and school board races in the county are frequently decided by a few hundred votes, which makes list accuracy disproportionately important — a mailing that misses a precinct is a meaningful share of the winning margin. Being in Vista means a North County campaign can walk in with a file on Monday.

Turnaround

What local actually means for a schedule

A short-run local job — postcards, flyers, a small mailing — is typically produced within a few business days of approved artwork and a clean list. Add finishing, multiple versions or a list that needs work and it lengthens. Mailings then need USPS transit on top, which is where entering at the San Diego facility helps for county-wide delivery. Published ranges are on the turnaround page, and we will give you a specific date rather than a range once we have seen the job.

Commercial print without mail

Not everything has to be mailed

A significant share of local work never enters the mailstream: business cards, brochures, forms, signage, event material and short-run collateral, collected in Vista. The same presses and finishing run it, and there is no minimum that makes a small job unwelcome.

Across the county

Campaigns we have produced for in San Diego County

Campaign and organisational work has included races and mailings in San Diego, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Vista, Oceanside, San Marcos, Escondido, Encinitas and Carlsbad. North County is a short drive for pickup or a proof review; South Bay, East County and the City of San Diego are served from the same floor with mail entered at the San Diego processing facility.

Field materials

Not just the mail

A campaign does not only mail. Yard signs, bumper stickers, door hangers, palm cards, walk pieces, push cards, banners and campaign apparel come off the same floor as the mail, on the same purchase order and the same schedule. That matters more than it sounds: when signs come from one vendor, shirts from another and mail from a third, the candidate is the one reconciling three delivery dates and three colour interpretations of the same logo. We print the mail and the field material to the same artwork, so the door hanger a volunteer carries matches the postcard that arrived that morning.

One connected workflow

Data to proof, inside one building

Most mailings cross three or four vendors. Every handoff is a place where a list changes, a piece goes missing, or nobody can say what actually happened. Plavidian keeps all six steps under one roof and one set of records.
