Direct mail market guide: San Diego County
Planning direct mail in Oceanside, ZIP code by ZIP code
Oceanside's households split along ZIP code lines: 92056 and 92057 are 67% and 69% owner-occupied, while most households in 92054 and 92058 rent. Every one of the 89 USPS carrier routes in those four ZIP codes can take Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM), and an addressed list does the selecting EDDM cannot, such as owners only. Plavidian, a print and mail production company in Vista, 7 miles away by road, handles the list, the printing and the USPS entry.
Oceanside at a glance
- 67,612 households in 4 ZIP codes
- 174,027 residents (California Department of Finance, January 1, 2026)
- 89 USPS carrier routes; the only rural routes are in 92057
- Letters and flats for all four ZIPs sort to SCF SAN DIEGO CA 920
- Plavidian's Vista plant is 7 miles away by road
Households by ZIP code
Where Oceanside households are
Read the table as two pairs. 92056 and 92057 are owner ZIP codes with median incomes above $100,000; 92054 and 92058 are majority renter with medians in the $70,000s, though 92054 has the highest median home value of the four. Across all four, 24% of households have incomes of $150,000 or more and 25% have less than $50,000, so an income select changes the count sharply: the List Builder's $150,000+ filter keeps about a quarter of households, and its $50,000+ filter leaves out another quarter.
| ZIP | Households | Owner-occupied | With children | Householder 65+ | Median household income | Median home value |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 92054 | 15,064 | 39% | 22% | 21% | $76,974 | $851,100 |
| 92056 | 19,512 | 67% | 29% | 34% | $102,570 | $696,400 |
| 92057 | 18,762 | 69% | 36% | 25% | $106,421 | $691,900 |
| 92058 | 14,274 | 28% | 43% | 13% | $72,479 | $609,000 |

Carrier routes
All four Oceanside ZIP codes have EDDM carrier routes
EDDM can reach all four ZIP codes, and three columns do the planning work: residential deliveries set an EDDM quantity, business deliveries matter most in 92054, and the Delivered from column shows just two delivery units serving all four ZIP codes.
| ZIP | Carrier routes | Residential deliveries | Business deliveries | Delivered from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 92054 | 19 | 17,183 | 1,510 | Brooks Street |
| 92056 | 29 | 21,383 | 1,180 | Oceanside |
| 92057 | 26 (3 rural) | 20,117 | 243 | Oceanside |
| 92058 | 15 | 14,490 | 585 | Brooks Street |
| Total | 89 | 73,173 | 3,518 |

Owners and renters
Two owner ZIP codes and two renter ZIP codes
Taken together, the four ZIP codes are 53% owner-occupied, a figure that averages two opposite pairs. Owners are the clear majority in 92057 (69%) and 92056 (67%), while most households rent in 92054 (39% own) and 92058 (28% own). An owner offer mailed to every door, such as a roof, a remodel or a listing consultation, lands mostly on owners in the first pair and mostly on renters in the second.
So the EDDM or list question in Oceanside is largely a ZIP code question. EDDM cannot pick owners, so an owner offer sent by EDDM belongs on the 92056 and 92057 routes, where about two in three households own; in 92054 and 92058, an addressed list filtered to homeowners reaches the owners without paying to print and mail a piece for every renter around them.
The renter ZIPs are an audience in their own right. A lease-up special or a gym membership suits EDDM on the 92058 and 92054 routes, while the owners of those rentals, who may live elsewhere, are reached through an absentee-owner list, the approach laid out for property management mail.
Families and older households
Families concentrate in 92058, older householders in 92056
Children are most common in 92058, where 43% of households have them and just 13% have a householder 65 or older. 92056 sits at the other end on age: 34% of its households have a householder 65 or older, the highest share of the four. 92057 leans toward families too, with children in 36% of its households.
Match the piece to the ZIP: a back-to-school checkup card from a family dental practice or a youth league sign-up belongs in 92058 and 92057, while a senior living tour invitation or a retirement income seminar starts in 92056.
Neither group fills its ZIP. Even in 92056, a 34% share means most householders are younger than 65, so an age-specific offer sent to every door still reaches more younger households than older ones. The List Builder's age and children filters count the addressed version; EDDM earns its place when the offer also suits the rest of the route.
Sizing EDDM
Size an EDDM order from USPS deliveries, not Census households
In each of the four ZIP codes, USPS lists more residential deliveries than the Census counts households: 73,173 against 67,612 in all. The gap is widest in 92054 (17,183 against 15,064) and narrowest in 92058 (14,490 against 14,274). The two sources measure different things: survey estimates of occupied households in ZIP-shaped Census areas on one side, and the residential addresses on each carrier route on the other.
An EDDM order is sized by the USPS figure: one piece for every residential delivery on each route you take, plus business deliveries if you add them. Budget from the route table or the EDDM Route Builder, which refreshes its USPS counts at least every two weeks, and use the Census table to judge who those routes reach. With more than 20,000 residential deliveries each, 92056 and 92057 are well past the EDDM Retail limit of 5,000 pieces per ZIP Code per day, a limit that does not apply here, since Plavidian enters EDDM through the business mail entry unit (BMEU) on its own permit.
Routes come whole, and Oceanside's vary in size. 92058 fits 14,490 residential deliveries into 15 routes, the largest routes of the four ZIP codes on average, while 92056 spreads 21,383 across 29, so a mailing that covers only part of Oceanside can be trimmed in smaller steps in 92056. The only rural routes, three of them, are in 92057.
Business deliveries and entry
Business deliveries lean to 92054, and two delivery units serve every route
Of the 3,518 business deliveries on Oceanside's routes, 1,510 are in 92054, the most of any ZIP, while 92057 has 243 beside 20,117 residential deliveries. For a homes-only EDDM mailing, leaving businesses off changes the count most in 92054 and hardly at all in 92057; for a lunch menu or an office service, 92054 is where adding business deliveries reaches the most business addresses.
The route table lists just two delivery units for all four ZIP codes: one serves 92054 and 92058, the other 92056 and 92057. An EDDM mailing entered at the delivery units therefore reaches all 89 routes in two drop shipments, and the EDDM Route Builder prices that option against origin and SCF entry before you choose.
From the Vista plant
Seven miles from the plant: what the short drive changes
Oceanside is 7 miles by road from the Plavidian plant on East Vista Way, closer than San Marcos (8 miles) or Carlsbad (9 miles). The short drive pays off for pieces that never enter the mail: door hangers, yard signs and counter flyers can be collected free at will call in Vista or sent over with local North County delivery, and proofs can be reviewed in person.
It does not change how the mail travels. Plavidian hands mailed pieces to USPS at its local entry point, or drop-ships them to the SCF or the delivery units, and USPS sets the pace from there, so plan the in-home window with the Mail Date Planner rather than by the drive.

Planning a mailing in Oceanside?
From an idea to mail in homes, one step at a time. Each step opens the tool that does it.
Define the market
Decide who the offer is for, then count them where they live in Oceanside: owners concentrate in 92056 and 92057, families in 92058 and 92057, and householders 65 and over in 92056.
Count Families in 92057 and 92058Compare approaches
EDDM on a flat is the simpler buy when every household on a route is a fair prospect; an offer that needs owners, an age band or names needs an addressed list. In Oceanside the answer can flip at a ZIP code line: an owner offer can ride EDDM in 92057, where 69% of households own, but belongs on an owner list in 92058, where 28% do.
Compare EDDM and a Mailing ListEstimate the mailing
Price it at a real quantity: EDDM to every residential delivery in 92057 is 20,117 pieces at the USPS count of September 27, 2026, while an owner list takes its quantity from the List Builder.
Estimate EDDM for All of 92057Prepare the creative
That 92057 mailing needs a flat, because Plavidian runs EDDM with flat-size pieces, 6.5 x 9, 8.5 x 11 or 9 x 12; an owner list in 92054 or 92058 can also carry a 4 x 6, 6 x 9 or 6 x 11 postcard. Plavidian Studio™ sets up the flat with its bleed, safe zone and USPS address and permit area marked, and the press-ready PDF is saved to your order rather than downloaded.
Design an EDDM FlyerProduce and mail
Addressing and USPS mail preparation run at the plant in Vista, and every job, including any an approved vendor prints, is held to the Plavidian Standard™. The mail goes out on Plavidian's USPS permits, so an Oceanside business does not need one. Pay for printing by card if you like; USPS postage is paid only by check or wire, and Plavidian releases no mail to USPS until those funds have cleared.
Follow the mail
Your Oceanside mailing includes Plavidian Insight™ at no separate charge, as every Plavidian mailing does. It reports the USPS scans the mailing receives, which show mailstream visibility, not proof of delivery.

USPS entry
How Oceanside mail is labeled and entered
Oceanside's ZIP codes all begin 920, and USPS gives a 920 letter and a 920 flat the same label, SCF SAN DIEGO CA 920. Vista's ZIP codes, 92081, 92083 and 92084, begin 920 as well, so Plavidian's plant and every Oceanside address fall under that one label, which also covers the 919 and 921 prefixes. USPS describes the Margaret L. Sellers Processing and Distribution Center in San Diego as its largest mail processing facility in the county.

Questions
Questions about direct mail in Oceanside
How many households are in Oceanside's ZIP codes?
The four ZIP codes this guide covers, 92054, 92056, 92057 and 92058, hold 67,612 households in the Census Bureau's American Community Survey for 2019 to 2023. Their carrier routes carry 73,173 residential deliveries, and EDDM quantities come from that USPS count rather than the Census one.
The California Department of Finance put Oceanside's population at 174,027 on January 1, 2026 (provisional). Census ZIP Code Tabulation Areas approximate ZIP codes and can cross the city line, so read the household counts as ZIP code totals.
Can EDDM reach all four Oceanside ZIP codes?
Yes. USPS lists carrier routes in all four, 89 in total, and Plavidian mails EDDM to them on its own permit through the business mail entry unit. Plavidian's EDDM jobs have a 200-piece minimum and use flat-size pieces of 6.5 x 9, 8.5 x 11 or 9 x 12.
An EDDM mailing reaches every residential address on the routes chosen, and business addresses too when you add them; it cannot filter by ownership, age, income or name. Postcards at 4 x 6, 6 x 9 and 6 x 11 mail at letter size, so at Plavidian they go to an addressed list instead.
How many pieces does an EDDM mailing to all four Oceanside ZIP codes take?
73,173 pieces for homes only, one for each residential delivery on the 89 carrier routes in 92054, 92056, 92057 and 92058, at the USPS count retrieved September 27, 2026. Including business deliveries adds 3,518 more.
The counts change as USPS updates its routes, so check the EDDM Route Builder for the figure on the day you order.
Which Oceanside ZIP codes suit a homeowner offer?
92057 and 92056, where 69% and 67% of households own their home. In 92054 and 92058 only 39% and 28% own, so an owner offer there works better on an addressed list filtered to homeowners than on EDDM, which reaches renters and owners alike.
Where is Oceanside mail sorted?
USPS labels letters and flats for all four Oceanside ZIP codes to SCF SAN DIEGO CA 920, the label it uses for every ZIP code beginning 919, 920 or 921 (labeling lists L005 and L016, effective June 27, 2026). Because the letter and flat labels match, a postcard and a flat addressed to the same Oceanside homes sort to one sectional center.
Vista's own ZIP codes share that label, so an Oceanside mailing has no out-of-county drop shipment to plan. For EDDM, the choice is origin entry, the SCF or the two delivery units that serve Oceanside, priced side by side in the EDDM Route Builder.
Can I pick up printing in Vista instead of having it shipped to Oceanside?
Yes, for print that is not mailed. Door hangers, yard signs and other pieces that never enter the mail can be collected at no charge from will call in Vista, a 7-mile drive from Oceanside, brought over with local delivery around North County, or shipped. Mailed pieces go from the plant to USPS, so there is nothing to collect.
The order cutoff is 12:00 PM Pacific, or 9:00 AM Pacific for a 2-day rush on the products that offer it, and production begins once the proof is approved; see Turnaround Times.
