Market guide: the West End of San Bernardino County

Mailing to Rancho Cucamonga: households, routes and USPS sorting

A Rancho Cucamonga mailing covers four ZIP codes that call for different plans: 91730 has the most households, most of the business addresses and more renters than owners, 91739 has the highest share of households with children and the highest median income, and 91701 and 91737 lean toward owners and householders 65 or older. USPS sorts all four under SCF INDUSTRY CA 917, a label the West End shares with Los Angeles County's San Gabriel and Pomona valleys rather than the one most of San Bernardino County carries. Plavidian, a print and mail production company in Vista, California, handles the list or the routes, the printing and the USPS entry for the Industry label.

Rancho Cucamonga at a glance

  • 57,983 households in 4 ZIP codes
  • 176,418 residents (California DOF, January 1, 2026, provisional)
  • 90 USPS carrier routes, 32 of them rural, from one delivery unit
  • Letters and flats both sort to SCF INDUSTRY CA 917
  • 32% of households report $150,000 or more (county: 21%)

Households by ZIP code

Where Rancho Cucamonga households are

Next to San Bernardino County as a whole, Rancho Cucamonga's households lean higher-income and are a little less likely to have children: 32% of them report $150,000 or more a year (county: 21%) and 35% have children (county: 40%), while 20% report under $50,000. Inside the city the four ZIP codes pull apart, with 91701 leading on owners and on householders 65 or older, 91739 on children, income and home value, and 91730, the largest, the only one where owners are under half.

Density, which the table leaves out, splits the city in two: 1,845 households per square mile in 91730 and 1,752 in 91701, against 781 in 91737 and 416 in 91739. These are survey estimates of occupied households; the USPS route table below counts more residential deliveries than households in each of the four ZIP codes, and EDDM quantities follow the USPS count.

Carrier routes

City routes in two ZIP codes, rural routes in the other two

The 90 routes come in two kinds: 91701 and 91730 are served only by city routes, and 91737 and 91739 only by rural routes, 32 in all. One delivery unit serves them all. Business deliveries lean heavily to 91730, so leaving businesses out of an EDDM order changes the count there far more than anywhere else in the city.

USPS sorting

One Industry label for the West End, reaching into four counties

USPS sorts Rancho Cucamonga mail by its 917 ZIP prefix, not by county, and the SCF label it carries, SCF INDUSTRY CA 917, reaches well past San Bernardino County. The same label covers the rest of the West End (Ontario, Upland, Chino, Chino Hills and Montclair), the San Gabriel and Pomona valleys and the Whittier and Norwalk area of Los Angeles County, the 906 ZIP codes on Orange County's northwest edge, and Jurupa Valley's 91752 in Riverside County.

Most of San Bernardino County carries a different label: its 922, 923 and 924 ZIP codes, 69.2% of the county's households, sort under SCF SN BERNARDINO CA 923, while 30.7% sort under Industry. A mailing that pairs Rancho Cucamonga with Upland or Ontario is planned for one sectional center; add Fontana or Rialto, both 923 ZIP codes, and part of the job is labeled to a second one, so a drop-shipped version needs a destination for each.

Letters and flats also stay together here, which is not true across the Inland Empire. For the 925 ZIP codes of Riverside and Temecula, a 6 x 11 postcard sorts under SCF MORENO VALLEY CA 925 and an EDDM flat under SCF SN BERNARDINO CA 923; for Rancho Cucamonga both carry the Industry label, so trading an addressed postcard for an EDDM flat changes the postage and the preparation but not where USPS sorts it.

91730

91730: renters, the highest density and most business addresses

91730 is the largest of the four ZIP codes at 25,333 households, more than 91701 and 91739 put together, and it is the only Rancho Cucamonga ZIP code in which renters outnumber owners (48% own). It is also the most closely built, at 1,845 households per square mile, and has the lowest median household income ($89,654) and median home value ($595,400) of the four.

New roofing, a kitchen remodel or a free home valuation is an owner offer, and sent to every door in 91730 it would reach more renters than owners, so there it belongs on an addressed list with a homeowner select. A restaurant menu or a gym membership offer suits renters and owners alike, which makes the 91730 routes, with the most homes per square mile, the natural first EDDM drop for it.

Business addresses cluster here as well: the 37 routes in 91730 carry 4,203 of the 5,194 business deliveries in the four ZIP codes. Turn business deliveries off in the EDDM Route Builder when the mailing is meant for homes, a choice that moves the 91730 count by thousands, and leave them on for an offer aimed at shops and offices, such as catering or commercial cleaning.

91739

91739: the top share of households with children, on rural routes

Households with children make up 42% of 91739, the largest share of the four ZIP codes, while householders 65 or older are just 15%, the smallest. The ZIP code also leads the four on median household income ($141,475) and median home value ($860,200), and 73% of its households own their home.

For EDDM, that makes 91739 the first stop for an offer built around children, a family dental checkup, a tutoring program or youth sports sign-ups, because the smallest share of its pieces goes to homes without children. In total numbers, though, 91730 holds more households with children, since it has more than twice as many households; there an addressed list filtered to children reaches them without paying for the 66% of households that have none.

All 19 carrier routes in 91739 are USPS rural routes, as are all 13 in 91737, while 91701 and 91730 have only city routes, and in this city the route type lines up with density: 416 households per square mile in 91739 against 1,845 in 91730. Rural does not mean small, since those 19 routes carry 13,337 residential deliveries, close to the 13,489 on the 21 city routes of 91701. It does come with fewer homes per square mile here, so a radius around a storefront in 91739 has to reach much farther than one in 91730 to find the same number of households.

91701 and 91737

91701 and 91737: owners and the highest shares of older householders

Owner occupancy peaks at 79% in 91701, and 91737 is 70% owner-occupied. The two also have the largest shares of householders 65 or older, 30% and 28%, against 22% across all four ZIP codes, and 91737 has the second-highest median home value, $843,500.

For an owner offer, 91701 is where every-door mail loses the least to renters, on 21 city routes at 1,752 households per square mile with only 308 business deliveries. A remodeling flat or a real estate market update mailed EDDM there lands mostly on owners, and 91737 works the same way for owners at the upper end of the city's home values.

Age is where EDDM stops helping. Even in 91701, 70% of householders are under 65, so a Medicare-season mailing or a senior living open house reaches its audience more precisely on an addressed list filtered by age. Count all four ZIP codes in the Mailing List Builder, not just these two: at 19%, 91730 still holds the most householders 65 or older, because it has nearly twice as many households as 91701.

From the Vista plant

From Vista to a 917 mailbox: entry points and print-only orders

Plavidian's plant is in Vista, whose 92084 ZIP code sorts under SCF SAN DIEGO CA 920, so a Rancho Cucamonga mailing leaves the San Diego sectional center's area for the Industry one. The mail either goes to USPS at Plavidian's origin business mail entry unit, with USPS moving it north from there, or is drop-shipped to the destination SCF or delivery unit for the 917 ZIP codes, and for EDDM routes the EDDM Route Builder shows the postage at origin, SCF and DDU entry side by side.

Delivery unit entry is simple here: the route table names the same delivery unit for all 90 routes, so a DDU drop has one destination whether it covers a single route or the whole city. For an addressed list that adds Fontana or Rialto to Rancho Cucamonga, Mailing Blueprint™, which needs a free Plavidian account, returns a weight-based drop-shipment plan along with the presort and postage.

Print that is not mailed, such as door hangers and yard signs, ships to a Rancho Cucamonga storefront or waits for free pickup at will call in Vista, since Plavidian's local delivery runs around North County San Diego.

Local direct mail planning

Planning a Rancho Cucamonga mailing

From an idea to mail in homes, one step at a time. Each step opens the tool that does it.

  1. Define the market

Choose the ZIP code before the piece: 91739 has the highest share of households with children, 91701 and 91737 lean to owners and older householders, and 91730 holds the renters and the business addresses. The Mailing List Builder counts households with children in 91739 from Census data bundled into Plavidian's system; add a second filter, such as owners, and the count becomes an estimate.

Count Households With Children in 91739
  2. Compare approaches

A restaurant or gym offer that any household can use fits EDDM flats, and the 37 city routes of 91730 carry the most homes, 26,918 residential deliveries. An owners-only offer in 91730 needs an addressed list instead, because 52% of its households rent.

Compare EDDM and a Mailing List
  3. Estimate the mailing

At the USPS count retrieved September 27, 2026, a homes-only EDDM drop on all 90 routes is 62,282 flat pieces, and 91739 alone is 13,337. An addressed mailing is planned from the Mailing List Builder count instead.

    Estimate a Citywide EDDM Drop
  4. Prepare the creative

Plavidian runs EDDM with flats: 6.5 x 9, 8.5 x 11 or 9 x 12. A 6 x 9 or 6 x 11 postcard is letter-size under USPS rules, so at Plavidian it mails to an addressed list, such as an owner list for 91730. Lay out the flat for the 91730 routes in Plavidian Studio™, which marks the bleed, the safe zone and the USPS address and permit area before you start and saves the press-ready PDF to your order.

Design a Flat in Plavidian Studio
  5. Produce and mail

Plavidian, a USPS Full-Service Certified Mail Service Provider, mails on its own permits, so a Rancho Cucamonga business needs none, and sets the entry for the 917 ZIP codes (origin, SCF or the one delivery unit) before the job is quoted. Addressing and mail preparation run at the Vista plant under the Plavidian Standard™. Printing can be paid by card; postage is paid by check or wire, never by card, and no mail is released until the postage has cleared.

  6. Follow the mail

Once the mail leaves Vista for the 917 ZIP codes, Plavidian Insight™, which comes with every Plavidian mailing at no separate charge, reads the USPS scans of each piece's Intelligent Mail barcode and shows delivery counts, a daily delivery curve and a delivery map; the scans show mailstream visibility, not proof of delivery. An addressed letter-size piece, such as a 6 x 9 postcard to 91730 owners, can also carry Plavidian Sentry™, the optional camera verification add-on.

USPS entry

Why Rancho Cucamonga mail carries an Industry label

All four ZIP codes start with 917, so the table needs a single row, and its letter and flat columns match: an addressed 6 x 9 postcard and an 8.5 x 11 EDDM flat bound for the same street both sort under SCF INDUSTRY CA 917. The ADC label, ADC INDUSTRY CA 917, spans the same 906, 917 and 918 prefixes, so mail sorted at that broader level stays in the Industry group too. The other Inland Empire labels are laid out in the Inland Empire guide.

Questions

Questions about direct mail in Rancho Cucamonga

How many households does a Rancho Cucamonga mailing reach?

The city's four ZIP codes, 91701, 91730, 91737 and 91739, hold 57,983 households according to the Census Bureau's American Community Survey for 2019 to 2023. USPS route data retrieved September 27, 2026 shows 62,282 residential deliveries on their 90 carrier routes, and an EDDM order is sized to that USPS count.

In people rather than households, the state's Department of Finance puts the city at 176,418 residents as of January 1, 2026, a provisional figure. The Census household figures come from ZIP Code Tabulation Areas, which only approximate the four ZIP codes and can reach past the city limit.

Count Rancho Cucamonga Households

Can EDDM reach every Rancho Cucamonga ZIP code?

Yes. All four ZIP codes have carrier routes: 21 in 91701, 37 in 91730, 13 in 91737 and 19 in 91739, 90 in all. Plavidian mails EDDM on its own permit through the BMEU, with a 200-piece minimum per job and flat pieces only, sized 6.5 x 9, 8.5 x 11 or 9 x 12.

EDDM Retail, the version taken to a post office counter, stops at 5,000 pieces a day for each ZIP Code; Plavidian's BMEU mailings are not held to that cap, which matters here because each of the four ZIP codes has more than 5,000 residential deliveries, from 8,538 in 91737 to 26,918 in 91730. EDDM reaches every residential address on the routes you choose, and business addresses too if you add them, but it cannot select owners, ages, incomes or names, so on the 91730 routes renters get the piece along with owners.

Why is Rancho Cucamonga mail sorted under Industry instead of San Bernardino?

Because USPS assigns sectional centers by the first three digits of the ZIP code, not by county, Rancho Cucamonga's 917 ZIP codes go where the USPS letter and flat labeling lists (L005 and L016, both effective June 27, 2026) send them: SCF INDUSTRY CA 917. The 922, 923 and 924 ZIP codes that hold most of San Bernardino County's households go to SCF SN BERNARDINO CA 923.

Ontario, Upland, Chino, Chino Hills and Montclair share the Industry label, so a West End mailing is planned for one sectional center; add Fontana or Rialto and Plavidian's entry plan, built from the ZIP codes on the list, covers a second.

Plan a Rancho Cucamonga Mail Date

Which Rancho Cucamonga ZIP code suits a homeowner offer?

91701 first, at 79% owner-occupied, then 91739 at 73% and 91737 at 70%, so EDDM on their routes reaches mostly owners. 91730 is 48% owner-occupied, so there an addressed list with a homeowner select aims the offer at owners instead of every door.

Count Owners in 91730

Where are the business addresses on Rancho Cucamonga's carrier routes?

Mostly in 91730, whose 37 routes carry 4,203 of the 5,194 business deliveries in the city's four ZIP codes. 91737 has the fewest, 116, so including or leaving out businesses barely changes an EDDM count there.

Choose residential deliveries only in the EDDM Route Builder when the mailing is for homes; for an offer to shops and offices, keep business deliveries in and start with the 91730 routes.

Does printing for a Rancho Cucamonga business ship, or can it be collected in Vista?

Both. Rancho Cucamonga is outside the North County San Diego area that Plavidian's local delivery covers, so door hangers, yard signs or counter flyers either ship to the business or are picked up free from will call at the plant in Vista. Mail pieces bound for the 917 ZIP codes go from the plant to USPS, so there is nothing to collect.

The order cutoff is 9:00 AM Pacific for a 2-day rush on the products that offer one and 12:00 PM Pacific for every other turnaround, and production time starts after proof approval; see turnaround times.
